Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to consider the appeal and impact of internet social networking sites and reflect upon a likely disconnect between libraries and the current web generation.

Design/methodology/approach

Makes reference to previous authors' works relating to social bookmarking and portable bookmarks.

Findings

Finds that serious academic researchers now utilize social bookmarking software.

Originality/value

Is of value to librarians who might consider using social bookmarking tags to reach out to today's net generation.
