TY - JOUR AB - Purpose– To identify a possible method of generating funds from an academic library's registered users.Design/methodology/approach– Focusing on the Delta State University Library, a study was conducted to determine whether the recent introduction of a library registration fee adversely affected the use of the library, and whether it would be a source of additional revenue for the library.Findings– Library use did not decrease on the imposition of the library registration fee. While all students do not register to use the library – or pay the fee – the registration mechanism helps staff generate money to pay for additional services, and helps to maintain usage of the library to its capacity to serve users.Originality/value– This study shows that the implementation of library registration fees did not cause user registration to diminish. In fact, it has continued to increase.
