Fuzzy systems and cybernetics

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to stimulate thought and discourse toward postmodernism and its less known roots.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper addresses the relationship between postmodernism and the development of the fuzzy sets theory, in the 1970s.

Findings

The paper points out how Kybernetes, under the leadership of Dr J Rose, was the first international journal to accept papers in this new field.

Originality/value

An interesting personal recollection and summary of 30 years of the topic of fuzzy systems.
