This article stems from work carried out by the authors at a manufacturing company in South Wales. There are two main themes. The first concerns the need for companies to adopt an integrated IT strategy. The second is concerned with management training and development. The main conclusion of the article is that lack of training can have a crippling influence on system development and the general health of a company. Some suggestions are put forward as to how to rectify the problem.
