AB  - Addresses the effect of
the anticipated near‐future change from print‐on‐paper to
electronically published journals on the way in which users will pay
for access to authors’ work. Compares two methods of payment:
“just in case” ‐ like the current subscription; and
“just in time” ‐ payment at the time of use. Takes the
view that each type of access will need to generate its own share of
the revenue needed to keep the information source economically
viable. Raises the question: if payment for access to
tomorrow’s electronic product can be fine‐tuned in this way,
why can this not also be done for access to yesterday’s
print‐on‐paper journals?
