Abstract

Points out that the development of health care has always been partially dependent on facilities and supporting services. Reports on the progress that has been made in the UK National Health Service (NHS) towards the co‐ordination of supporting services into facilities management directorates with NHS hospital trusts. To assess the extent to which the director of facilities management is in a position to influence the trust’s strategic development, business planning and policy decision making, also investigates the seniority of directors of facilities management within their trusts.
