AB  - Presents an address made by Lauchlin Currie before the Illinois Banking Association in Springfield, Illinois in May 1938. The paper discusses aspects of business and banking developments in 1936 and 1937. Concludes that the developments of 1936 led on the developments of 1937, which in turn are reflected in the present difficulties, and they condition in large part the timing and manner in which they will progress. The paper states that the main problem of making the economic machine function smoothly at near capacity levels, is always with present and its solution will tax economists for many years to come.
