TY - JOUR AB - First, based on a review of current manufacturing trends, argues for a new type of logistical infrastructure supporting agility and quick response to global markets. Second, shows how this new logistical infrastructure is being put in place. Describes the Global TransPark project in North Carolina and its empirical support aimed at creating a logistical environment to improve manufacturing competitiveness in an era of international sourcing and sales and speed‐to‐market. The Global TransPark is one, and arguably the most advanced, logistical infrastructure for agile manufacturing being developed in the USA. Based on findings from company surveys, it concludes that the new focus of logistics must be the linkages within the organization and throughout the entire organizational network.
