Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to assess the values held by United Arab Emirates University students and to assess the influence of socio‐demographic factors, such as gender, citizenship, income, education, occupation, family size, on their values.

Design/methodology/approach

The study conducted a questionnaire with 242 men and 353 women students.

Findings

The results indicate that religious and cognitive values were prioritised by the respondents and that gender, income levels, family size and father's occupation were the most important factors influencing values.

Originality/value

This is one of the first studies of the values held by people living in the United Arab Emirates.
