Abstract

Gives a description of the work of the NBBI Project Bureau for Information Management, located in The Hague. This Dutch bureau was originally founded in 1987 by the Dutch Government. The mission of NBBI is to help build an optimally functioning information infrastructure in The Netherlands. NBBI also conducts commercially‐oriented research and consultancy in the field of information services, specializing in the production, conveyance and use of information. Describes tasks that NBBI routinely executes for the European Commission, its expertise in market positioning and NBBI staffing. Some project results are presented. For example, the disclosure of previously hard‐to‐access audio‐visual material and the development of a model for library management. Ends with NBBI’s plans for the future. NBBI will further focus on information research and information consultancy. Beside the possibilities of information technology, NBBI sees many chances for improvement of management, performance measurement and quality assurance in the information sector.
