Abstract

My experience over the last two decades, together with the results of discussions with a large number of Indian executives and managers, leads me to believe that there are three essential problems which can be considered as major bottlenecks to our productivity growth. They are: lack of managerial understanding, and promotion, of innovation; an attitude of short‐term profit maximization; a natural tendency towards centralization and bureaucratization.
