Abstract

Current demographics demonstrate clearly that the number of young people entering Britain′s job market will be severely reduced in the near future. Hoteliers rely very heavily on young people entering their workplace. With the aim of improving retention rates, The Portman Inter‐Continental Hotel has devised a new induction scheme for all levels of staff. Extending over a three‐month period, the new modular programme is an integrated process linking training, management philosophy, technical systems and operating procedures. Details are given of the 14 modules. Innovative features are a graduation ceremony on completion and the appointment of an Induction Facilitator with responsibility throughout the UK and Benelux regions.
