The 1988 Act: Accountability and Control: An FE Perspective
Abstract
A range of recent measures taken by the Government has forced educators in the FE sector to re‐examine their values, purposes and practices. The 1988 Act was an attempt to incorporate two forms of accountability which were to be laid on the further education service. One related to public and state control of education and training policy and the other gave expression to the policy preferences of the Government for a consumerist and market‐led delivery of educational services.
