The COMA report on nutritional aspects of cardiovascular disease: : the scientific evidence
Abstract
Summarizes the main conclusions and recommendations of the recent COMA report on the nutritional aspects of cardiovascular disease. Reinforces existing advice to reduce total fat, especially saturated fatty acids. Emphasizes the importance of the long chain nā3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. For the first time, COMA has advocated a reduction in the sodium intake ā by three grams (about 30 per cent) in the average UK diet. A diet high in fruit and vegetables is also recommended.
