Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to improve the global optimization ability of the Tabu search (TS) algorithm, and then improve the calculation efficiency and accuracy of rolling schedule in tandem cold rolling.

Design/methodology/approach

A case-based reasoning–Tabu search hybrid algorithm (CBRTS) has been presented. First, the case-based reasoning technology was adopted to obtain high-quality initial solution and then the TS algorithm was used for global optimization.

Findings

The optimization effect of CBRTS is compared with that of the traditional TS algorithm, and the analysis result indicates that the CBRTS has a faster convergence rate than TS, and the optimization results are closer to the global optimal. Meanwhile, the rolling schedule calculated by CBRTS is more reasonable, which can increase the production efficiency while giving full play to the capacity of equipment.

Originality/value

A CBRTS hybrid algorithm is presented. The strong dependence of the TS algorithm on the initial solution has been solved. The rolling schedule multi-objective optimization functions are established. The proposed algorithm is applied in a 1,450-mm tandem cold rolling production line. The improved method can reduce about half the iterations compared with the traditional one.

Abstract

Purpose

Drawing upon social cognitive theory, this study aims to investigate the potential predictors and consequences of social media health-misinformation seeking behavior during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Design/methodology/approach

Using a sample of 230 international students studying at Wuhan University and Beijing Language and Cultural University, China, this study employs structural equation modeling to analyze the collected data.

Findings

The results indicate that personal factors such as lack of health information literacy, environmental factors, information overload and social media peer influence have a significant effect on behavior, namely social media health-misinformation seeking behavior, which further influences outcomes, namely social media users' anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, both lack of health information literacy and social media peer influence have significant and direct effects on social media users' anxiety. However, the direct effect of information overload on social media users' anxiety is insignificant.

Originality/value

First, this study contributes to the literature on the individuals' social media health-misinformation seeking behavior, its precursors and its consequences, specifically on their mental healthcare during a pandemic situation. Second, this research is one of the pioneer studies that extend social cognitive theory to the context of social media health-misinformation seeking behavior and users' anxiety relationship.

Abstract

Purpose

The issue of conflict has been around for a long time. With the development of economic development and the diversification of industries, conflicts have shown a trend of complex development. By reviewing interorganizational conflict in construction, this study aims to identify the formation, development and evolution of conflict and to assist organizational managers in using scientific conflict management tools to deal with and resolve conflict.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper considers the following questions: “What is the overall research status of the interorganizational conflict in construction projects?” and “What are the trendy issues in interorganizational conflicts in construction projects?” This study uses R software's Biblioshiny program to describe the overall conflict between organizations to answer question 1. This study uses Netminer – a social network analysis (SNA) software and text mining to explore research trends and answer question 2.

Findings

Interorganizational conflict has been one of the most important topics in recent years when it comes to conflict issues. This paper intends to examine interorganizational conflict in construction in an attempt to shed light on four main topics regarding the conflict: the application of conflict theory; factors that induce conflict; the effect of conflict on performance; and methods of conflict management.

Research limitations/implications

Through a comprehensive analysis of interorganizational conflict, this study helps to increase the understanding of scholars in the field of conflict research. This study suggests future research directions and provides references for managers to improve their conflict management, decision-making and performance.

Originality/value

This study combines bibliometrics, SNA and text mining research methods. Multidimensional and multiperspectival assessments are performed based on the status of the research, its evolution and trends. The results of this study can be used to guide the resolution of conflict in other industries. This study also enriches the scientific theory related to the interorganizational conflict.

Abstract

Purpose

In the process of cold rolled strip, there is tight coupling between flatness control and gauge control. The variation of the roll gap caused by the change of bending force will lead to the change of rolling force. Furthermore, it can cause a deep impact on the control accuracy of strip exit thickness and exit crown. The purpose of this paper is to improve the accuracy of the bending force preset value for cold rolled strip.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, the bending force preset control strategy with considering of rolling force was proposed for the first time and the preset objective function of bending force was established on the basis of the two-objective optimization of bending force and rolling force. Meanwhile, the multi-objective intelligent algorithm – INSGA-II – was used to solve the objective function.

Findings

The proposed bending force multi-objective preset model has been tested in a 1,450 mm tandem cold rolling line. The analyzed results of field data show that the deviations of strip exit thickness and exit crown are reduced effectively by using the improved model, and at the same time, more reasonable bending force preset values are obtained, which can enhance the accuracy of flatness preset control.

Originality/value

A preset model of bending force with considering flatness and gauge is proposed in this paper and the multi-objective function of bending force preset is established on the basis of the two-objective optimization of bending force and rolling force. The value lies in proposing a new decoupling method of rolling force and bending force.

Abstract

Purpose

With the yearly increase of mileage and passenger volume in China's high-speed railway, the problems of traditional paper railway tickets have become increasingly prominent, including complexity of business handling process, low efficiency of ticket inspection and high cost of usage and management. This paper aims to make extensive references to successful experiences of electronic ticket applications both domestically and internationally. The research on key technologies and system implementation of railway electronic ticket with Chinese characteristics has been carried out.

Design/methodology/approach

Research in key technologies is conducted including synchronization technique in distributed heterogeneous database system, the grid-oriented passenger service record (PSR) data storage model, efficient access to massive PSR data under high concurrency condition, the linkage between face recognition service platforms and various terminals in large scenarios, and two-factor authentication of the e-ticket identification code based on the key and the user identity information. Focusing on the key technologies and architecture the of existing ticketing system, multiple service resources are expanded and developed such as electronic ticket clusters, PSR clusters, face recognition clusters and electronic ticket identification code clusters.

Findings

The proportion of paper ticket printed has dropped to 20%, saving more than 2 billion tickets annually since the launch of the application of E-ticketing nationwide. The average time for passengers to pass through the automatic ticket gates has decreased from 3 seconds to 1.3 seconds, significantly improving the efficiency of passenger transport organization. Meanwhile, problems of paper ticket counterfeiting, reselling and loss have been generally eliminated.

Originality/value

E-ticketing has laid a technical foundation for the further development of railway passenger transport services in the direction of digitalization and intelligence.

Purpose

This study aims to present a novel hydrostatic squeeze film-metal mesh journal bearing (HS-MMJB), which uses both hydrostatic squeeze film damper (HSFD) and metal mesh damper (MMD), to suppress the vibration of rotor-bearing systems.

Design/methodology/approach

The lubrication equations were introduced to calculate the dynamic characteristics of HS-MMJB, and the response analyses of rotor systems were carried out. Experiments were conducted to study the vibration reduction of a rotor system with HS-MMJB. In addition, experiments for different oil supply pressures in the HS-MMJB were conducted.

Findings

The theoretical and experimental results show that the HS-MMJB exhibits excellent damping and vibration attenuation characteristics. Moreover, the stability of the rotor system can be improved by controlling the oil supply pressure.

Originality/value

There is a dearth of research on vibration characteristics of rotor system support by journal bearing combining HSFD and MMD. Moreover, the active oil pressure control is implemented to improve the stability of rotor system.

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of geometric size on intermetallic compound (IMC) growth and elements diffusion of Cu/Sn/Cu solder joint and establish the correlation model between the thickness of the IMC layer and size of the solder joint on the dozens of microns scale.

Design/methodology/approach

The sandwich-structured Cu/Sn/Cu solder joints with different gaps between two copper-clad plates (δ) are fabricated using a reflow process. The microstructure and composition of solder joints are observed and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy.

Findings

After reflow, the thickness of the IMC and Cu concentration in solder layers increase with the reduction of δ from 50, 40, 30, 20 to 10 μm. During isothermal aging, the thickness of the IMC fails to increase according to the traditional parabolic rule due to changes in Cu concentration. The reduction of δ is the root cause of changes in Cu concentration and the growth rule of the IMC layer. A correlation model between the thickness of the IMC layer and δ is established. It is found that the thickness of the IMC layer is the function of aging time and δ. With δ reducing, the main control element of IMC growth transfers from Cu to Sn.

Originality/value

This paper shows the changes of IMC thickness and elements concentration with the reduction of the size of solder joints on the dozens of microns scale. A correlation model is established to calculate the thickness of the IMC layer during aging.

Abstract

Purpose

Live streaming commerce enhances shopping experience and reduces uncertainty. However, with increasingly fierce competitions, it has become a challenging task for live streaming commerce platforms to retain existing customers. The purpose of this study to explore factors affecting customers’ stickiness intention toward live streaming commerce platforms.

Design/methodology/approach

A research model was developed by modifying e-commerce system success model (ES success model) based on the context of live streaming commerce and meanwhile integrating serendipity and flow into the model. Using the data collected from 380 customers who have live streaming shopping experience, the established model was empirically assessed by partial least squares based structural equation model.

Findings

The results show that vividness, real-time interaction and diagnosticity are antecedents of perceived value and customer satisfaction toward a live streaming commerce platform which in turn influence customers’ stickiness intention. Besides, as new factors introducing into the ES success model, serendipity and flow are two important motivators of satisfaction and stickiness.

Originality/value

This study establishes a well-organized framework to understand the mechanism regarding why customers stick with a live streaming commerce platform. It provides a socio-technical approach to analyze how the stickiness intention can be influenced.

Purpose

CISV (formerly Children’s International Summer Villages) is an international charity established in Cincinnati, USA, in 1950. It offers non-formal educational programmes for children and young people from 11 years. In its intercultural programmes English is used as Lingua Franca while space and opportunities are created for participants to use their first languages. A primary aim of the organisation is to promote intercultural friendship and understanding. This chapter has dual aims. Firstly, it provides a review of the impact of intercultural learning in CISV and its unique multilingual practice on development of friendship and Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) among children and youth. Secondly, it investigates the methodological issues in evaluating the development and changes in ICC, specifically, the under-reported problem of ‘inflated’ perceptions with regard to self-assessment questionnaires.

Findings

Existing research evidence corroborates the positive and long-term impact of CISV experience on participants’ social development (including friendship), cultural awareness, challenges are also identified. For example, how can programme and activity organisers encourage equitable and active participation when participants’ language proficiency in the shared language is varied? How do we explain the regression in self-assessment of ICC? In this chapter, we compare three different ways of measuring changes and propose a purposely designed predictive and reflective questionnaire (PaRQ). Open questions (‘narrative spaces’) in these questionnaires provide the opportunity for participants to comment on their own perceptions of learning and friendship development.

Originality/value

CISV differs from many other intercultural education organisations in that it offers opportunity for relatively young children, promotes learning and development in a multicultural environment and adopts a language practice that combines English as Lingua Franca (ELF) and a multilingual outlook. Understanding its successes and areas for improvement provides some insight into friendship development in multilingual and intercultural settings.
