Presents and analyses the important developments in interlending during 1992‐1993. Relating trends to a selection of recent publications, the review concentrates on the developing pattern of service provision and electronic initiatives as the two broad themes. Particular topics chosen as the year′s key issues are the British Library strategic plan, charging between libraries, networking, library and information planning, the provision of minority language material and the role of the regional library system. Discusses the implications of redirections in Government policy.

The past year has been dominated by the publication of several major reports on library and information provision, all of which have implications for the interlending network. Aims to examine some of the issues raised in the reports and comment on their impact on ILL and co‐operation. Highlights and discusses major ILL initiatives developed during 1994. These include the introduction of a new inter‐regional database.

In late April 1973, Charles P. Sutcliffe, the Commissioner of the Royal Hong Kong Police Force (RHKPF), received confidential information that Chief Superintendent Peter F. Godber, Deputy District Police Commander for Kowloon, was remitting money abroad. This information was transmitted to James J. E. Morrin, the Director of the Anti-Corruption Office (ACO), for investigation. By the end of May 1973, investigations by the ACO officers revealed that Godber had deposited in Hong Kong banks or remitted overseas HK$650,000 (US$128,332) since 1968 (Blair-Kerr, 1973a, pp. 3–4).

These are the proceedings of a symposium held at Stamford University and include a complete section on aircraft crashworthiness with a survey of rotary wing aircraft crashworthiness by G. T. Singley. In this he reviews and analyses the findings of the 11 year crash survival research and development programme conducted by the Eustis Directorate and covers accident investigation, crash testing of full‐scale, fully instrumented aircraft, crash injury and crashworthiness evaluation of aircraft, and aircraft mockups; and selected component and subassembly testing. An assessment of energy absorbing devices for prospective use in aircraft impact situations is made by A. A. Ezra and R. J. Fay. The subject is defined as the specific energy absorption capacity per unit weight of device or system, the efficiency of the stroke, the stroke to length ratio, the reliability, the repeatability, the ability to sustain rebound loads and the cost. Human tolerance limitations related to aircraft crashworthiness by A. I. King outlines the problems encountered in the scaling of animal data to the human level and in the correlation of single‐directional tolerance data to actual multi‐directional impacts. Jack Collins and James W. Turnbow consider the response of a scat passenger system to impulsive loading in which they present maximum system forces, displacements, velocities and accelerations as functions of velocity change, aircraft deceleration, crash pulse shape, passenger weight and scat belt slack. Also of especial interest is “Flutter prevention in design of SST” by M. J. Turner and J. B. Bartley which they discuss in relation to configuration constraints resulting from mission performance requirements. This is included in a section on structural systems and other sections in the book concern structural elements, materials and solids.

Investigates the differences in protocols between arbitral tribunals and courts, with particular emphasis on US, Greek and English law. Gives examples of each country and its way of using the law in specific circumstances, and shows the variations therein. Sums up that arbitration is much the better way to gok as it avoids delays and expenses, plus the vexation/frustration of normal litigation. Concludes that the US and Greek constitutions and common law tradition in England appear to allow involved parties to choose their own judge, who can thus be an arbitrator. Discusses e‐commerce and speculates on this for the future.

MEMBERS of the Aslib Economic and Business Information Group heard something of the objects and activities of Counter Information Services (producers of ‘anti‐reports’ on rtz, British Leyland, etc) in November. The scheduled speaker having had to withdraw at short notice, Mr Lepper manfully stepped in with a straightforward account of the origins of the organisation in a group of ‘like‐minded’ individuals with diverse backgrounds. No particular organisation was behind it, he said, and those backing it at any given time varied with the subject currently under investigation, as did the personnel—staff and volunteers— undertaking the research.
